BeFrienders Ministry
A lay pastoral care program of specially trained parishoners who respond to the needs of others by visiting them, listing with care and providing emotional and spritual friendship.
A single parent struggling with the trials of growing children, a person living with a chronic illness, an unemployed head-of-household weary and depressed from job seeking, a lonely widow feeling abandoned— all are suffering and going through challenging times of life. There are no easy solutions.
Reaching out to offer a sign of concern and a living reminder of God’s love can lift spirits and transform lives. Building upon their rich human resources, churches can mobilize lay persons who wish to live out their baptismal call through a ministry of pastoral care.
There is one obstacle. Pastoral staffs and interested individuals sense a need for training and program structure that will give confidence and direction to this ministry.
